Mentors & Organizations
Are you a C-suite cybersecurity professional looking for top student talent? The EBCS is currently recruiting mentors to host EBCS interns for Summer 2022. Our innovative program will match experienced cybersecurity practitioners with technical students for a 2-month internship program. Mentors will be expected to work closely with their students and take an active role in their students’ research projects. In return, mentors will receive students who will be trained in research techniques and the latest cybersecurity tools.
The Evidence-Based Cybersecurity Research Group will recruit 30 students (20 upperclassmen and 10 graduate students) from across the U.S. Students will be selected based on a minimum 3.5 GPA, faculty recommendation, coursework in Computer Sciences, knowledge of Python, SQL, etc., and a curiosity and strong interest in cybersecurity research. The EBCS will short-list intern candidates and open the candidate portal to mentors in December for interviewing and selection. This will allow ample time for security clearances before the internship begins in June.
Each week of the internship, the interns will attend workshops led by the multi-disciplinary EBCS faculty at Georgia State University. The workshops will focus on research methods, research designs, network security, identifying vulnerabilities, ameliorating attacks, and best security practices. Interns will be learning about the latest cybersecurity tools, while gaining hands-on experience utilizing these tools with their mentors.
The Training and Mentorship Program will be free of cost for the students, who will receive $1,200 per month from the EBCS. There is no obligation for the mentor’s company or agency to provide payment for their intern.
Mentors should be experienced cyber professionals looking to nurture the development of the next generation of cybersecurity researchers. Mentors will guide interns as they develop their research projects, introduce interns to security tools and allow interns to deploy these tools on both their and the EBCS cyberinfrastructure. Research outcomes will then be presented as academic research papers at the completion of the 2 month internship.
